A Solstice Breath: A Gentle Reflection for the Season

Today is the Summer Solstice—the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The word solstice comes from the Latin solstitium, meaning “sun stands still.” And that’s exactly what this day invites: a quiet moment to pause, breathe, and honor where we are in the flow of the year.

The solstice marks a natural turning point. We’ve reached the peak of light—and from here, the days will slowly begin to shorten. It’s a moment full of symbolism: abundance, fullness, warmth, and the wisdom of knowing when to begin turning inward again.

Even if we’re not gathering around bonfires or ancient stones, we can still let this seasonal threshold speak to us. It’s a beautiful time for some gentle self-care:

  • Step outside and feel the sun on your skin
  • Reflect on what has grown in your life since winter
  • Set an intention for the second half of the year
  • Whisper a prayer of gratitude for the light—both outside and within

“You have made summer and winter.” — Psalm 74:17

Let this solstice remind you: light is sacred, and so are you.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be writing more about the different areas of well-being and how we can care for our whole selves—one breath and one day at a time.
